Accessories and stuff

Take a Belkin usb/firewire hub, add in an AC adapter to power the USB and Firewire busses, but also add in a built in Mac Mini power brick. Viola - 1 power wire from the wall to the hub/power supply w/ a single 3" cable to the Mac Mini.

And what about a UPS, sitting under the Mac Mini, w/ the Mini's power supply built into it. Small 3" cable to the Mini for power. Then come up w/ some way to run the monitor's power over it's cable from the Mini. Coupled with 802.11 and Bluetooth, you'd have a Mini with 2 cords going to/from it. One for power in, the other for the monitor and it's power. Nice, neat and clean.

Oh, and after seeing this article on Slashdot about a guy that stuffed a battery into his Mac Mini, I wondered why don't more computers have a built in mini-ups to last 3-5 minutes to survive brown outs, etc? It'd be brilliant, hopefully give just enough time to hibernate the system so you don't lose everything.

Absolutely. I want this in my next box. Even the cheapest built-in UPS would be able to keep the computer on following momentary power hiccups.

As for the Mac mini ideas, I'm with you. What I really want is a shorter monitor cable, or some way to manage that wire. The mini is small enough that I keep it on the desk, so the monitor cord is way too long. I'm digging the Belkin slim hub that goes under the mini. I may have to pick one of those up.
